Low Vision Service

Retinal disease is responsible for the majority of moderate to severe vision loss in the western world. In the under 65s Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of legal blindness, whereas Age related Macular Degeneration is the commonest reason for severe central vision loss in people older than 65 years. There are other retinal and eye conditions that can cause vision loss at any age, from hereditary retinal degeneration, to glaucoma and many other conditions.

The aim of the Low Vision Service is to enable patients to use their vision to its maximum functional potential by training and providing visual aids as well as training patients how to use their side vision (aka eccentric fixation). The success of the service is based on detailed assessment of the patient and their needs.

This service is provided at special sessions at the clinic by a UK trained optometrist, Ms Galateia Georgiou, MCOptom. This service is only provided by appointment.
